Stylish London Wedding in Islington | Day Two

Here are some highlights from day two of Caroline and Julian’s stylish London wedding. I’m playing catch-up a little here but better late than never!

The previous day, which you can see  here,  they had held an intimate ceremony at  Islington Town Hall followed by a celebratory lunch at  Frederick’s restaurant nearby. For the second part, they both wanted a very relaxed wedding reception for their guests with lots of opportunities to mingle and an abundance of fun.

Rather than hire a wedding venue in Islington, they decided to transform the architectural offices run by the groom’s parents with the help of the wonderfully-talented Andri Benson from Always Andri Weddings. With her vision, the space was styled in a very chic and modern way, and adapted to suit the relaxed mingling of wedding guests. Additional rooms with arcade games, movies, and chill-out spaces meant the kids (and adults) had plenty of fun – despite the rain outside!

The bride’s daughter looked very cool wearing a matching suit to the groom, music was provided by top UK DJ’s  Wedding Smashers and the guests enjoyed delicious bowl food, which is a hot trend for weddings at the moment.

You can see the full list of amazing wedding suppliers at the end of this post but in the meantime, take a look at this very original and stylish London wedding and be inspired!

  • Stylish Putney wedding at Thames Rowing Club | Winter wedding in London

Stylish Putney wedding at Thames Rowing Club | Winter wedding in London

Hi all, I’m so happy to share Kirsteen and Joe’s elegant winter wedding in London which took place in Chiswick and Putney, at the  Thames Rowing Club.

Kirsteen prepared at her parent’s home in Chiswick alongside her family and afterwards, they made their way to the historic   St.Nicholas’ church where their guests and a nervous-looking Joe were waiting. She looked a picture of beauty in her gorgeous Shamali gown from  Daisy’s Bridal Couture.

After the ceremony, the guests travelled on private London bus to their Putney wedding venue, the  Thames Rowing Club. As the December sun went down over the Thames, the guests entered a magical winter wedding reception, filled with twinkling festive touches and a distinctive nod to the bride’s Scottish heritage. Joe is originally from Ireland, so a large contingent of friends and family from the Emerald Isle were also present.

The celebrations finished with a lively ceilidh which was enjoyed by all. Congratulations Kirsteen and Joe, and thank you for allowing me to be part of your wonderful winter wedding in London!

Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness and love together!

    Siobhan x

Some lovely words from the bride & groom:

“We wanted to say a massive thank you for the absolutely beautiful photos that you took of our wedding day. You really did capture it so perfectly & we’re so lucky to have such a wonderful reminder of the day. You were absolutely brilliant throughout last year & you did an amazing job on the day, fitting in so well on the morning through to the dancing. In fact, a few people asked if we’d had a photographer there which is a huge testament to your work! We honestly couldn’t imagine having anyone better for the job, you were just brilliant. Thanks also for the beautiful box, prints & USB stick – something else to treasure along with our engagement photo book.”

  • 2018 wedding trends | UK wedding inspiration

2018 wedding trends | UK wedding inspiration

Congratulations, it’s wedding planning time (hurrah!) and I have put together a quick look at the best 2018 wedding trends for you.

I have scoured the finest bridal blogs, flicked through the top wedding magazines and even photographed the coolest weddings to see what new ideas and trends are out there, saving you hours of planning time! You will find lots of brilliantly-creative wedding ideas here that will inspire you, and add a contemporary edge to your wedding. All wedding photography by me, of course!

    1. Celestial Beings

Starry-eyed brides and grooms will love this theme. With so much scope for creativity, you can go all out like Jess and Crispin did (above and below), or maybe just add a casual nod to the night sky like star-shaped fairy lights on tables. Either way, it’s heavenly…

    2. See-through spaces

Who doesn’t love the contemporary elegance of a Louis Ghost chair? They are one of the easiest ways to add this cool and modern wedding trend, though the same effect can be created by hiring an elegant glass-filled room – perhaps an orangery – as your wedding venue. It opens up the space beautifully, avoiding a heavy, cluttered look. Wedding styling by Always Andri (above left and below) and HeartShaped Weddings (above right).

    3. Black is the colour

Add some drama to your decor with modern accents of black. Less is more and simplicity is the key to getting it right. Mix with some gold elements for the ultimate sophistication.

    4. Paper Art

Many stationery suppliers offer a bespoke service, allowing you to create something that reflects who you are. Scandi wedding invitations (above right) by  Paper Arrow Press.
I love Rachel’s gorgeous invitations above, featuring a wonderful drawing of their ceremony church, by the bride’s close friend which beautifully picks up the rich  reds of the bouquet.

    5. Relaxed braids

I have photographed enough weddings to know that many carefully-coiffed brides begin to see their updos unravel by the time the guests are seated for dinner. If you’re a relaxed and chilled bride, you are going to love this new trend. These gorgeous braids will perfectly complement a modern lightweight wedding dress – full of movement and natural elegance.
    Hair styling by Cassandra Rizzuto

    6. Bridal tiaras

Tiaras are turning heads in 2018, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Alina’s look was inspired by one of her favourite works of art:  Vrubel’s Swan Princess – how enchanting does she look? Or for a more subtle take on it, Jessica is wearing the ‘Hedy’s halo crown’ from The Pink Collar Life.

Alina rocking her tiara at her Chelsea wedding to Ricky.

    7. New Food

This is a big London wedding trend and one that appeals to many of us. On your wedding day, wouldn’t it be great to see all of your guests mingling with each other, rather than confined to one seat for the entire meal? Food vans, spit roasts and bowl food have all featured at weddings I’ve photographed recently and I really love the relaxed atmosphere they help create.

    8. Dessert Tables

Dessert tables continue the easy food trend, creating not just an eye-catching display for your wedding guests to “ooh” and “ahh” over, they’re also a great conversation starter and an epicurean’s delight.

I hope you enjoyed this brief look at some of the best 2018 wedding trends so far.

I’ve been lucky enough to photograph all of the gorgeous examples above, so clearly I have worked with some very cool brides and grooms! If you are looking for stylish, modern and cool wedding photography, I would love to hear your wedding plans in the form below, and I will get back to you with all the answers you need as soon as possible!

    Happy wedding planning!

  • Engagement photography | Verity and Joe in Brighton

Engagement photography | Verity and Joe in Brighton

Verity and Joe first met when they were students in Brighton, so it was the perfect location for their engagement photography session.

Spending a beautiful afternoon walking through the lanes and along the promenade brought back all of the memories they share of this wonderful city. Brighton has got to be one of my favourite places in Britain; so full of character and originality, and on the day we were blessed with the most perfect winter light. Such a lovely, relaxed engagement photography shoot – my favourite kind!

Verity and Joe will be getting married next year in  Loseley Park, one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Surrey which I cannot wait to capture for them. We first met when they visited my stand at the amazing  Brides the Show last year; wedding fairs are a great way to see a curated selection of wedding suppliers that fit your style and needs.

If you’ve just got engaged and are looking for stylish and modern wedding photography, I would absolutely love to hear from you! Engagement sessions are included when you book one of my weekend collections so please take a moment to see these gorgeous images and use the contact form below to tell me all about your plans.

  • Kirsteen and Joe engagement session | Chiswick wedding photographer

I had a lovely engagement shoot with Kirsteen and Joe earlier this year, which I’m finally getting round to blogging! We took a walk together around the grounds of Chiswick House and Gardens, a stunning Palladian villa surrounded by landscaped gardens in West London.

Kirsteen and Joe met at Nottingham University back in 2006, fell in love pretty quickly and while they both went their separate ways for their Year Abroad (Joe to Auckland and Kirsteen to Paris), when Joe returned, he headed straight to the City of Love to find her and the rest is history. This week, they will be getting married at  St.Nicolas’s Church in Chiswick followed by a reception at the  Thames Rowing Club in Putney which I am really looking forward to capturing for them.

Please scroll down to see some of the images from their engagement shoot at this stunning location.

  • Elegant and autumnal Coventry wedding | Rachel and Alex at St.Mary’s Guildhall

    Autumnal Coventry wedding

I love all seasons but there is something about autumn and its wonderful, rich colours that makes me feel so happy inside! Rachel and Alex held their elegant English wedding on a crisp November day in Coventry, with a church ceremony at the picturesque  St. Bartholomew’s in Binley followed by a reception at the historic  St.Mary’s Guildhall in the heart of Coventry. Both live in London now, where I photographed  engagement session earlier in the year. As expected, Rachel made a very elegant bride in her beautiful gown from  David’s Bridal.

Guests came from far and wide, and were treated to a special choir performance during the ceremony then travelled to the venue in vintage buses. During the drinks reception in the vaulted undercroft at St.Mary’s, we managed to nip out and grab a few portraits against the epic backdrop of the ruins of Coventry cathedral, before everyone made their way into the incredible Great Hall, where guests could admire the medieval details including one of England’s finest tapestries. Rachel’s dad composed a special song for the bride and groom which everyone had fun singing along to! The evening finished with a fantastic ceilidh where young and old took to the floor with gusto and danced the night away.

Huge congratulations to Rachel and Alex, I wish you both the very best in your new life together and thank you for choosing me as your wedding photographer.

If you’re planning your wedding, I would love to hear all about it! Fill in my contact form and I will be in touch. In the meantime, enjoy a few highlights from this lovely autumnal wedding.

  • A summer family photo session in Bushy Park

“I want my daughter to see how much I loved her”.

These were Ana’s words when we first discussed our family photo session in Bushy Park. Sadly, she knew she didn’t have long left in this world so it was really important to her to have a beautiful and natural photographic record of her love for her family. They have many happy memories of weekends spent in Bushy Park, so we decided to go there early one morning and just enjoy being amongst nature together.

We had such a wonderful photo session; they played, explored and laughed together while I captured it on camera. The whole experience was so emotional, it really brought home what a privilege it is to do what I do, and how important family photography really is.

I will leave you with Ana’s words when she received her pictures. To be able to bring such joy and comfort to someone is one of the most humbling experiences I have ever had.

    Siobhan

“Ok, now I have stopped crying I can write….but I truly am lost for words. My heart melted. You so captured everything this was about. You have created the most beautiful memories for me to leave my family with. I absolutely love every single one of them!! Thank you! Again, I don’t think I am good enough with words to express how much I love the work you did!

There are people who take pictures, there are people who capture feelings and emotions. You are one of those who capture the magic of moments, emotions and feelings. You are truly special at what you do.”

  • Brunel museum wedding photographer London | Sara and Florian

Brunel museum wedding photographer London | Sara and Florian

I was so delighted when Sara and Florian asked me to be their  Brunel museum wedding photographer. It is one of London’s hidden gems, and only opened as a wedding venue in 2017. I have always been fascinated by engineering, and  Isambard Kingdom Brunel was one of its greatest pioneers. Situated on a quiet street along London’s riverside in Rotherhithe, the museum is run by volunteers who want to educate and share his genius with the world. It also makes a pretty special wedding venue, steeped in history and full of character as you can see in the pictures below!

Sara and Florian are a fabulous, fun and creative couple; both of them exuded style and glamour and their deep love for each other was clear to see. Sara’s incredible bridal look was inspired by Rita Hayworth (I love this!) while Florian turned to Austin Powers for his inspiration! They wanted a relaxed celebration with their friends and family in an interesting place where their guests could learn a little more about London’s history. They had held an intimate ceremony the day before so the reception was all about good fun, good food, and good company.

If you are considering a Brunel museum wedding or are planning a unique London wedding, I would love to hear from you!

Get in touch at siobhan@siobhanhphotography.com or call 07809 575 460.

Hope you enjoy the photos, Siobhan x

  • 2018 wedding trends | Brides the Show London

I recently had the honour of showing my work at Brides the Show in Islington, London where I had a front row seat to observe all of the amazing 2018 wedding trends.

Beautifully-curated by Brides magazine, I was not only lucky enough to meet lots of gorgeous brides and grooms to be, but I also got to meet some of the finest wedding suppliers in London and the UK. It is bridal heaven – trust me!

Despite it being a very busy show, I managed to grab a few snaps of some of the wonderful displays on show so if you didn’t get to go yourself, and would like to see some gorgeous wedding inspiration and the hot 2018 wedding trends, you’ve come to the right place.

    ______________________________________

Not only is  Sharon Cunningham is one of the UK’s leading bridal designers, she’s also great fun and a fellow Irish woman – what’s not to love?! Her couture wedding gowns are straight off the pages of Vogue – sophisticated, luxurious and modern.  Pop over to her website to find out more about her work.

My next door neighbour at the show was the lovely Kate from Wags and Weddings. Your wedding is about celebrating your marriage surrounded by your loved ones, and one of the big wedding trends for 2018 is bringing your pet along too. If you’re a dog-lover and dream of your pooch playing a role on your big day, Wags and Weddings can make it happen for you. They will train your dog to walk up the aisle and make sure they are well looked throughout the day. Now every dog can have its day, or at least be a part of yours!

I absolutely love these beautiful creations from Plume Design,  a very talented stationery designer based in South West London. They create bespoke luxury stationery for weddings and events, check out more lovely designs on their website. Envelope liners are a big wedding stationery trend for 2018, as is beautiful paper (rather than card). Strawberry Sorbet‘s  stand blew me away – the dark grey walls and copper legs really highlighted their modern designs, while the talented de Winton Paper Company showed off their fine art watercolour stationery – delicate illustrations are another big theme for next year.

How great does this very on-trend doughnut wall look??  Sugar Tits create cool and colourful confectionery displays for fashionable London couples to wow their guests.  The Enchanting Cake Company is one of the UK’s leading cake specialists and their stand showed off some of their award-winning (and delicious-looking) creations.

Dessert tables are also a hot trend for 2018, and these delicate creations from Piff Paff Bakery also work really well as a modern wedding favours.

I noticed a lot of really relaxed and modern bridalwear at Brides the Show this year; lightweight fabrics that move gracefully with exquisite design details. Lace, pleating and feathered elements are a big 2018 bridalwear trend.

Here are some gorgeous examples from Ruth Milliam Couture,  Halfpenny London,  Charlie Brear,  Katya Katya Shehurina,  Belle & Bunty and  Amanda Wakeley.

  • Esther & Simon | The Swan at Shakespeare’s Globe wedding venue

Esther & Simon | The Swan at Shakespeare’s Globe wedding venue

I love a fun and relaxed London wedding, and Esther and Simon’s celebration at The Swan at Shakespeare’s Globe was certainly that.

They both prepared for the celebrations at the amazing Mondrian hotel on London’s south bank, which is just a short walk from their wedding venue, The Swan at the iconic Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. With the stunning backdrop of  St Paul’s Cathedral and the London skyline, they held their intimate ceremony in The Balcony Room with their friends and family, followed by plenty of food, drink and dancing. I managed to sneak them out for some couple portraits along the famous riverside, where their joy and elation was so obvious, they put a smile on the face of every tourist they passed!

Esther looked so beautiful in her  Windsor and Eton Bride’s gown, and Simon looked pretty sharp in his  If The Suit Fits outfit. I had photographed their Hampstead engagement session a few months previously, so they were both really comfortable and relaxed in front of the lens.

I would definitely recommend The Swan at Shakespeare’s Globe wedding venue if you love all things London and want to raise a toast to love as the sun goes down over the Thames.

Here are a few highlights from their wedding, which will give you a good idea of how I capture the day. If you would like what you see and would like to check my availability on your own wedding date, I would love to hear from you! You can call me on 07809 575460 or email siobhan@siobhanhphotography.com and I will send you my e-brochure.

  • Bold & Minimalist Wedding Style | The Old Dairy London

I am a huge fan of modern styling and design, so when Rebecca from Heart Shaped Weddings asked me to collaborate on a bold & minimalist wedding style shoot at The Old Dairy in East London, it was a no-brainer!

We were also really excited to see the resulting images published on the fabulous wedding inspiration blog   Bridal Musings.  Styled shoots are a great opportunity to explore creative ideas and work with some of the best wedding suppliers in the UK. The theme for our shoot was Edgy Romance and we wanted to create some modern wedding inspiration for cool London brides and grooms to be. Using a chic minimal palette, we added modern monochrome details, relaxed florals from  Herbert & Isles, and a touch of glitter and neon. Our model Roxana wore some amazing bridal looks from the effortlessly-chic collection of Spanish label  Otaduy, along with loosely-plaited hair and a hint of glitter on her smokey eyes.  Paper Arrow Press‘s gorgeous Scandi stationery and  Claire Owen‘s minimal black and gold wedding cake completed the look.

Here are some highlights from the shoot, but pop over to  Bridal Musings if you’d like to see more. It’s a great way to find inspiration for your own wedding, and a useful reminder that you can create any look you want: it doesn’t have to be the same as every other wedding. It’s your big day so it should reflect your inspirations and your own natural style. Pop me a quick email on siobhan@siobhanhphotography.com or call me on 07809575460 if you like my natural and minimal photography style, and I’ll send you a copy of my brochure and availabilty.

  • London riverside engagement photography

I love to go for a wander along the London riverside, taking in the historic sights and getting lost in its quiet beauty.

Rotherhithe is a particularly interesting area, with a long history as a port and most famously, where   The Mayflower set sail from on its voyage to New England. It is also home to the fascinating   Brunel museum, where the lovely Sara and Florian held their recent wedding.

It has been a busy summer, so I will get round to posting a blog about that soon (I promise!) but in the meantime, here are some pictures from their London engagement session. We took a lovely walk along the Thames Path together, and captured their love for each other, as well as their love of this beautiful city.

Stay tuned for their (amazing) Brunel Museum wedding – coming soon! If you are planning your London wedding, and like my relaxed and natural photography style, I would love to hear from you. You can email me at siobhan@siobhanhphotography.com and tell me all about your plans.

  • Greenwich Park engagement session London | Rachel and Alex

Beautiful Greenwich Park engagement session with Rachel and Alex.

I spent a lovely afternoon wandering around Greenwich Park and the National Maritime museum with Rachel and Alex recently. They will be celebrating their wedding later this year in Coventry but as London is where they both call home now, we decided to make the most of what this beautiful city has to offer for their engagement session.

Every corner of England’s capital is so full of history and interesting discoveries, but there is something so evocative about Greenwich. For me, it instantly conjures up Turner-esque images of mighty sea battles across the globe and great advances in astronomy and navigation.

Rachel and Alex’s love story has an international flavour too, as they originally met and fell in love in Germany when they both worked for the same company. Alex has recently relocated to London and they are looking forward to the next chapter in their lives together.

Here are a few highlights from our Greenwich Park engagement session. If you are currently planning your own wedding adventure, and would like a beautiful, modern engagement session in London (or elsewhere), I would love to hear from you. • Modern London Wedding in Islington | Caroline and Julian | Day One

Modern London Wedding in Islington | Caroline and Julian | Day One

I feel lucky to have worked with some of the coolest brides and grooms out there, and Caroline and Julian definitely fall into that category. They had such a lovely, intimate approach to their wedding; it was all about celebrating their love for each other with the people that mattered to them. Their very relaxed and modern London wedding took place over two days, and it was so special it has merited two blog posts.

It was such a cheerful and stress-free wedding morning that when Caroline casually mentioned she hadn’t really thought about getting wedding shoes and later on, let her future sister in law take a scissors to her beautiful Alberta Ferretti gown it just showed what a chilled-out bride she was.

They made their way to Islington Town Hall where they held the most beautiful and emotionally-charged ceremony, with plenty of tears and laughter. Afterwards, they celebrated with an intimate lunch at the legendary Frederick’s restaurant, just down the road in Camden Passage.

Here are a few of my favourite images from the day!

Thanks to the talented Andri from Always Andri Weddings for helping to plan their celebration. I can’t wait to show you how she transformed Julian’s parent’s architectural office for day two of their celebrations, such a gorgeous London wedding.

  • Creative headshot photography for lifestyle brands

Creating lifestyle brands that stands out requires imagery allows people to see the real you.

Getting your personality across for lifestyle brands means you can communicate directly with potential clients, rather than being another faceless business.

Here are a few images from a fun, relaxed session I shot recently in Surrey with business development manager Charlotte. They really capture her warm, humorous and upbeat character and work so much better than a traditional headshot for her objectives. The images are fresh and contemporary, as well as being open and friendly, which appeals to everyone.

  • Relaxed engagement session Hampstead {Esther & Simon} | London wedding photographer

Esther and Simon will be getting married at one of London’s coolest wedding venues  The Swan at Shakespeare’s Globe on Bankside this summer which I am very excited about, and earlier this year we decided to mark their pre-wedding journey with a gorgeous and relaxed engagement session on Hampstead Heath. On a crisp early spring afternoon, we took a wander along the heath and chatted about all things wedding-related and got to know each other a little better.

It is important to me to include engagement shoots in my wedding package, as I like to connect with my couples and allow them to get comfortable in front of the camera before the big day. It is amazing the difference this makes to the wedding portraits! These sessions also reflect my shooting style quite well; I’m not one for elaborate, posed shots with lots of artificial light. For me, taking a relaxed walk together will allow me to get the most beautiful and natural images with a clean contemporary style, that you will look back at and instantly remember those moments as they truly were.

If you like my work and would like something similar for your wedding photography, I would love to hear from you! Let’s meet for a chat over coffee (or wine) and talk about your wedding plans.

Just fill in the contact form at the end of this page or send a short email to  siobhan@siobhanhphotography.com and I will get back to you within 24 hours.

Hope you enjoyed looking at this relaxed engagement session Hampstead. If you are planning your wedding and would like a similar style of photography, let’s meet up for a no-obligation chat!

Just fill in the details below and I will be in touch soon – looking forward to hearing from you, Siobhan
