2018 wedding trends | UK wedding inspiration

Congratulations, it’s wedding planning time (hurrah!) and I have put together a quick look at the best 2018 wedding trends for you.

I have scoured the finest bridal blogs, flicked through the top wedding magazines and even photographed the coolest weddings to see what new ideas and trends are out there, saving you hours of planning time! You will find lots of brilliantly-creative wedding ideas here that will inspire you, and add a contemporary edge to your wedding. All wedding photography by me, of course!

    1. Celestial Beings

Starry-eyed brides and grooms will love this theme. With so much scope for creativity, you can go all out like Jess and Crispin did (above and below), or maybe just add a casual nod to the night sky like star-shaped fairy lights on tables. Either way, it’s heavenly…

    2. See-through spaces

Who doesn’t love the contemporary elegance of a Louis Ghost chair? They are one of the easiest ways to add this cool and modern wedding trend, though the same effect can be created by hiring an elegant glass-filled room – perhaps an orangery – as your wedding venue. It opens up the space beautifully, avoiding a heavy, cluttered look. Wedding styling by Always Andri (above left and below) and HeartShaped Weddings (above right).

    3. Black is the colour

Add some drama to your decor with modern accents of black. Less is more and simplicity is the key to getting it right. Mix with some gold elements for the ultimate sophistication.

    4. Paper Art

Many stationery suppliers offer a bespoke service, allowing you to create something that reflects who you are. Scandi wedding invitations (above right) by  Paper Arrow Press.
I love Rachel’s gorgeous invitations above, featuring a wonderful drawing of their ceremony church, by the bride’s close friend which beautifully picks up the rich  reds of the bouquet.

    5. Relaxed braids

I have photographed enough weddings to know that many carefully-coiffed brides begin to see their updos unravel by the time the guests are seated for dinner. If you’re a relaxed and chilled bride, you are going to love this new trend. These gorgeous braids will perfectly complement a modern lightweight wedding dress – full of movement and natural elegance.

    6. Bridal tiaras

Tiaras are turning heads in 2018, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Alina’s look was inspired by one of her favourite works of art:  Vrubel’s Swan Princess – how enchanting does she look? Or for a more subtle take on it, Jessica is wearing the ‘Hedy’s halo crown’ from The Pink Collar Life.

    7. New Food

This is a big London wedding trend and one that appeals to many of us. On your wedding day, wouldn’t it be great to see all of your guests mingling with each other, rather than confined to one seat for the entire meal? Food vans, spit roasts and bowl food have all featured at weddings I’ve photographed recently and I really love the relaxed atmosphere they help create.

    8. Dessert Tables

Dessert tables continue the easy food trend, creating not just an eye-catching display for your wedding guests to “ooh” and “ahh” over, they’re also a great conversation starter and an epicurean’s delight.

I hope you enjoyed this brief look at some of the best 2018 wedding trends so far.

I’ve been lucky enough to photograph all of the gorgeous examples above, so clearly I have worked with some very cool brides and grooms! If you are looking for stylish, modern and cool wedding photography, I would love to hear your wedding plans in the form below, and I will get back to you with all the answers you need as soon as possible!

    Happy wedding planning!

  • 2018 wedding trends | Brides the Show London

I recently had the honour of showing my work at Brides the Show in Islington, London where I had a front row seat to observe all of the amazing 2018 wedding trends.

Beautifully-curated by Brides magazine, I was not only lucky enough to meet lots of gorgeous brides and grooms to be, but I also got to meet some of the finest wedding suppliers in London and the UK. It is bridal heaven – trust me!

Despite it being a very busy show, I managed to grab a few snaps of some of the wonderful displays on show so if you didn’t get to go yourself, and would like to see some gorgeous wedding inspiration and the hot 2018 wedding trends, you’ve come to the right place.

Not only is  Sharon Cunningham is one of the UK’s leading bridal designers, she’s also great fun and a fellow Irish woman – what’s not to love?! Her couture wedding gowns are straight off the pages of Vogue – sophisticated, luxurious and modern.  Pop over to her website to find out more about her work.

My next door neighbour at the show was the lovely Kate from Wags and Weddings. Your wedding is about celebrating your marriage surrounded by your loved ones, and one of the big wedding trends for 2018 is bringing your pet along too. If you’re a dog-lover and dream of your pooch playing a role on your big day, Wags and Weddings can make it happen for you. They will train your dog to walk up the aisle and make sure they are well looked throughout the day. Now every dog can have its day, or at least be a part of yours!

I absolutely love these beautiful creations from Plume Design,  a very talented stationery designer based in South West London. They create bespoke luxury stationery for weddings and events, check out more lovely designs on their website. Envelope liners are a big wedding stationery trend for 2018, as is beautiful paper (rather than card). Strawberry Sorbet‘s  stand blew me away – the dark grey walls and copper legs really highlighted their modern designs, while the talented de Winton Paper Company showed off their fine art watercolour stationery – delicate illustrations are another big theme for next year.

How great does this very on-trend doughnut wall look??  Sugar Tits create cool and colourful confectionery displays for fashionable London couples to wow their guests.  The Enchanting Cake Company is one of the UK’s leading cake specialists and their stand showed off some of their award-winning (and delicious-looking) creations.

Dessert tables are also a hot trend for 2018, and these delicate creations from Piff Paff Bakery also work really well as a modern wedding favours.

I noticed a lot of really relaxed and modern bridalwear at Brides the Show this year; lightweight fabrics that move gracefully with exquisite design details. Lace, pleating and feathered elements are a big 2018 bridalwear trend.

Here are some gorgeous examples from Ruth Milliam Couture,  Halfpenny London,  Charlie Brear,  Katya Katya Shehurina,  Belle & Bunty and  Amanda Wakeley.
